Convert dönüm to square metres, hectares and decares, or square metres back to dönüm. Includes the old dönüm and the evlek used in older Turkish records.
Today one dönüm equals one decare: 1,000 m². Title deeds record area in square metres; the old dönüm (about 919.3 m²) and the evlek appear only in old records and local usage.
One dönüm is 1,000 square metres, the same as a decare. A 5-dönüm field is 5,000 m², and one hectare is 10 dönüm, or 10,000 m².
The old dönüm, defined as 40 × 40 arşın, is about 919.3 m². After the metric system was adopted the dönüm was taken as 1,000 m². If an old document says "dönüm", verify the area against the square metres on the title deed.
One hectare is 10 dönüm, or 10,000 m². Large farmland and forest areas are usually expressed in hectares.
An evlek is a local unit taken as a quarter of a dönüm, usually 250 m². Because it varies by region, official transactions always rely on the square metres in the deed.
