How much notice must a tenant give in Türkiye?
Short answer
In a fixed-term lease, the tenant must give notice at least 15 days before the term ends. Otherwise the lease is deemed extended for one year on the same terms.
Details
- The notice must be in writing.
- For a family home, the tenant cannot terminate the lease without the spouse's explicit consent.
- The landlord cannot end the lease just because the term has expired. After the ten-year extension period, the landlord can end it without giving a reason by notice at least three months before the end of each extension year.
Legal basis
- Turkish Code of Obligations No. 6098, Articles 347, 348 and 349
