Short answer
One dönüm is 1,000 square metres and equals one decare. One hectare is 10,000 square metres, or 10 dönüm.

- One evlek is 250 square metres; four evlek make one dönüm.
- The old dönüm is 919.3 square metres and may appear in old title records.
- Title deeds state the area in square metres; dönüm is the everyday unit.
Example
A 7,500 m² field is 7.5 dönüm; a 2.3-hectare plot is 23 dönüm, or 23,000 m².
